BALINT GROUP
Our work is complex, requiring technical skill in a dynamic setting with clients under significant stress. Balint groups build our empathy, by cultivating our imaginative comprehension of our clients' experiences. A Balint group provides a safe forum to bring together experience and meaning. As we deepen our empathy, we lessen the isolation that can lead to burnout.

There are two monthly Balint groups available for Collaborative professionals. One is based in King County, and co-lead by Collaborative Coach Tim Peterson and Joanna. The other is hosted through Collaborative Professionals of Washington, and co-lead by psychoanalyst Trevor Slocum and Joanna. If you are interested in learning more about Balint or joining a group, please contact Joanna.

One longtime Balint group member, Gwen Mathewson, sat down with me for a conversation about the use of Balint in our work. Hereʻs the transcript.
